ANSI/ASIS Organizational Resilience American National Standard
Dear Volunteer Leader:

The Department of Homeland Security has notified the public of its intent to adopt the ANSI/ASIS Organizational Resilience American National Standard as a national preparedness standard for private-sector entities as part of the DHS PS-Prep program. This communication, which is being sent to the ASIS Board of Directors and Council and Chapter Chairs, is to inform you of the criticality that private sector organizations and businesses who endorse the ANSI/ASIS Organizational Resilience Standard voice their support by submitting comments to the Federal Register Public/Docket ID: FEMA-2008-0017 <http://bit.ly/2MvyXz> (pdf) on or before November 15.

For reference, this one page document <http://bit.ly/2yR3TB> (pdf) summarizes salient points regarding how the ANSI/ASIS Organizational Resilience Standard is unique to other preparedness standards under consideration. It is the only preparedness standard that takes an enterprise-wide view of risk management, thereby enabling an organization to develop a comprehensive strategy to prevent when possible, prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from a disruptive incident. It is also the only preparedness standard that is 100% compatible with existing ISO management system standards.

By way of background, the PS-Prep seeks to raise the level of private-sector preparedness through DHS adoption and promotion of preparedness standards. It also provides a mechanism for a private security entity to receive certification that it is in conformity with one or more of the adopted standards. The ANSI/ASIS Organizational Resilience Standard provides a holistic approach for organizations to cost-effectively improve their resilience performance and increase preparedness.

All received public comments will ultimately be posted for public consumption by DHS.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or need additional information. ASIS greatly appreciates your support.

Sincerely,
Michael J. Stack
Chief Executive Officer
